Martha leads a journalism initiative in McKeesport for the Center of Media Innovation, where she focuses on empowering citizens to strengthen their communities through storytelling. A Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, Martha’s desire to tell compelling stories has taken her from the mountains of Haiti to African villages to the streets of her hometown of Pittsburgh. Her photographs have received international acclaim, including a Pulitzer Prize for work documenting the lives of Burundian and Rwandan survivors of the 1994 genocide. She specializes in documentary, editorial, and portrait photography, and her work is part of permanent collections of the Carnegie Museum of Art, among others. Martha loves to garden, hike, and travel.
